Heart rate monitors: Your training buddy
Many people who begin exercise routines quit in the first six months, if not sooner. The primary cause for this is that they lose motivation. Why do people lose exercise motivation? Because they don't have the tools to chart their progress and accomplish their goals. A good heart rate monitor can do these things and will quickly become your new training buddy.
Heart rate monitors are accurate tools that are easy to read. While many high end exercise machines have heart rate monitors built in, a wrist type heart rate monitor would be beneficial to have as well, for two reasons. Firstly, the wrist heart rate monitors, which usually come with a chest strap, are adjustable for a person's weight, height, age, and more. Secondly, a wrist heart rate monitor can be taken anywhere - out on a jog, to an exercise class, or even out to play basketball with friends.
To get an effective workout is to find balance. If the intensity of your exercise regimen is too low, it is not likely that you'll see weight loss results or a gain in endurance. If the intensity is too high, you may tire quickly, resulting in less workout time, or you may even injure yourself. Heart rate monitors are an effective feedback mechanism to help you achieve this balance.
Heart rate monitors are excellent motivating tools when exercising. They can easily tell you if you are in the proper "zone" for the results you want to achieve, such as endurance or weight loss. Not only that, but many types come with an alarm that will sound if you get out of the zone. By using a heart rate monitor, you are provided with instant and continuous feedback that will let you know whether or not your workouts are effective.
